====== Band Saw ====== **THIS BANDSAW HAS BEEN RETURNED TO ITS OWNER. Replaced with [[startrite_bandsaw|Startrite Bandsaw]]** Clarke Woodworker CBS355\\ Blades: 1780mm length, 0.4mm thick, 6-13mm (1/4"-1/2") wide\\ {{ :cbs355.pdf |Manual}} TRAINING REQUIRED BEFORE USE. {{:clarke_woodworker_bandsaw.jpg?300}} On loan from Stephen Giles. ===== Safety ===== * Wear safety glasses. * Position the blade guard as low as possible to limit your exposure to the blade. * Keep hands away from the blade at all times. * Hold the material to the side of the blade so that your hands cannot fall into the blade if you trip. * Always keep your eye on the blade. * Limit the number of people around you, to avoid distractions and accidental trips. * For beginners, have a second person to give you feedback (e.g. point out when you are positioning your hand too close to the blade). ===== Maintenance ===== * disconnect from power * remove front cover (two screws) * tighten tensioner to free the blade * raise the blade guard * remove positioning blocks if required * remove/replace blade * ensure that blade teeth are in the correct position (facing forward and down) * loosen tensioner slowly, manually turning the blade to check that everything is in position, then hand tighten followed by 1/4 turn tightening with 6 mm hex key * install the positioning blocks (should be almost touching) * adjust bearing so that flat face almost touches back of blade * replace cover ===== Tips ===== * Lowest speed should be fine for most tasks (higher speed makes more heat) * Different blades for different tasks (shallow "scroll" blade for fine work, general blade for wood, bimetal blade for aluminium). * Cutting some steel might be okay, but this saw is really designed for woodworking * Position the blade guard as low as possible to keep the blade from flexing too much * Curves can't always be cut in one go (cut wider to make space for the blade, then refine afterwards) * Don't force it, avoid twisting the blade * Support the material to avoid pinching the blade * Don't leave the cover on the sanding disc
